The World Today Archives - My Scattered Brain All In One Place Wed, 19 Aug 2020 19:41:56 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.5.3 COVID-19 My Observations and Chats with Lucy http://myscatteredbrain.com/2020/08/18/covid-19-my-observations-and-chats-with-lucy/ Tue, 18 Aug 2020 01:49:09 +0000 http://myscatteredbrain.com/?p=121 Here is San Diego COVID-19 Stats from 6/23/2020 and 7/28/2020. Some observations: The median age of death in both cases is 78 yrs.  Life expectancy in the US according to the CDC is 78 yrs.  https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/fastats/life-expectancy.htm The mortality rate dropped. When I ran with Lucy right after the 4th of July, she said anecdotally, she’s been seeing a lot more patients in their 20s and 30s.  She expected the median age of death for COVID to start dropping with 2-3 weeks.  This is because of the protests and 4th of July celebrations and it takes about 2-3 weeks from the time the symptoms show up, until complications and eventually death.  However, as of 7/28/2020, it was still 78 yrs and they are no longer reporting the median age of death. Follow Up 8/15/2020 I ran with Lucy on Saturday and we were talking about Trump and his handling of Coronavirus.  I said I thought he’s doing well and glad he shut down travel from China in January as early as he did.  No one else would have had the guts to do that. She responded that research shows that the virus came in through Europe, not China.  My response is it’s because travel was shut down from China or we would have seen it from there sooner than we did. She also said research shows that the virus was spread due to businesses opening up and not from the protests (as she had originally thought).  I said that I would need to see that research to confirm it wasn’t biased.

Running and Chatting about Main Stream Media, Trump and COVID http://myscatteredbrain.com/2020/08/15/running-and-chatting-about-main-stream-media-trump-and-covid/ Sat, 15 Aug 2020 17:57:00 +0000 http://myscatteredbrain.com/?p=16 Here’s the problem, a lot of people don’t realize they are watching biased media. I went for a run and was talking to a very good friend of mine yesterday. She is smart, went to Stanford and is an infectious disease doctor. All her patients are COVID patients. Yesterday, she asked what I thought about Kamala. For the first time in 5 years, I told her I am conservative and a Trump supporter. I told her how the MSM skews his words, takes things out of context, etc. She said, I don’t watch main stream media. I only read New York Times and Washington Post! Another thing is she asked how I thought Trump was doing with his response to COVID. I said it was good he shut down travel from China when he did back in January. No one else would have the guts to do that. She said, actually, they’ve done research and discovered the virus was coming in from Europe, not China. I said yes, that’s because he shut down the travel from China, otherwise it would have gotten here sooner from China. She said, well, he could have shut it down from Europe sooner.
